Home Staging Helps Sell Your House Faster

A picture is worth a thousand words:

before

Home staging is the process of preparing a home for sale, with the goal of getting the most money in the shortest amount of time possible. Home staging is proven to work - if it didn’t, builders wouldn’t spend thousands of dollars decorating model homes.

Most buyers decide in the first 30 seconds whether a house is right for them. That is the time a seller has to capture their interest, and staging your home will help maximize the impact of those seconds to ensure a quick sale!

It is crucial to stage your house BEFORE you list, so you can impress buyers the first time they visit. Otherwise, they may not come back a second time.

I’m a professional stager, and I can assure you that home staging can maximize your sale price. As the housing market cools, it’s more important than ever to pull out all the stops…here’s my favourite trick for getting top dollar - Basketball Rule.

It’s no secret that America is a nation of consumers. And all of that stuff we buy is strewn about our homes :)
Here’s a rule of thumb: Remove all items that are smaller than the size of a basketball. Pack up at least half of your books. And stash the photographs of you and the kids on your Hawaiian vacation. You want the buyer to be able to envision himself in your home - not you. Follow the Basketball Rule and you will be surprised by the results.

Hi Jon, nice rule :) thanks for posting it on my blog. As for home staging, sellers shouldn’t look at staging by seeing how much it will cost but how much it could make. Even sellers with limited financial resources can find ways to use a stager’s expertise. Some stagers will do a consultation for about $250, which can include a written report that details what owners can do to stage a home themselves.

I totally agree with you, Julia, staging is not necessarily pricey. In fact, a high price tag, say, $3,000 for staging an entire house, may indicate low creativity on the stager’s part. Anyone can fill a house with costly furniture, artwork, and table settings. Top stagers may charge as little as $300 by swapping items from other rooms. Stagers make things out of nothing. It cuts down on the cost. If a client does more, a stager can do less, and the cost goes down.

I don’t believe one can’t stage a house himself! I’m sure if you re4ally want to sell it, the only thing you have to do is make it look less like you. This means the buyer will see himself in it. But actually, to my mind, the main things about the house are the rooms themselves, not how they’re decorated… or, maybe, I’m just actually one of those who’d like to spend all thei lives gardening…
